Little Traverse Wheelway
The Little Traverse Wheelway is a 26 mile paved and non-motorized trail that extends from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. Surfaced with 8' to 10' wide asphalt or 6' wide concrete sidewalk, the trail is great for biking, walking, running, inline skating, and skiing. The trail follows the Little Traverse Bay shoreline and north side of US-31 to Petoskey, and then follows M-119 into downtown Harbor Springs. The terrain is mostly flat with occasional, gradual hills.
There are great views along the full length of the trail. Other highlights include a 3/4 mile boardwalk over a wetland east of Charlevoix; direct water access at several points along the Lake Michigan shoreline; the 1.4 mile stretch that follows the bluff between East Park in Bay Harbor and Magnus Park in Petoskey; and the historic segment between Petoskey's Bayfront Park and M-119.
The Wheelway can be accessed from a number of sites. Parking, water, picnic tables, restrooms, and other amenities are available at several parks along the trail. A number of natural areas are also located along the trail. For more information about the trail system, please visit the Top of Michigan Trails Council website.
Note: Not all sections of each trail are approved for every activity listed for the trail as a whole. Please click on individual trail sections to see approved activities for that section.
