Sleeping Bear Dunes - Windy Moraine Trail
Starting and ending in open field, the Windy Moraine Trail loops up around the top of a glacial moraine. Going south from the trailhead, the trail covers flat terrain to the base of the hill; then begins a steady incline up through beech-maple forest. After passing through pine plantation, the trail reaches the top and the views of Glen Lake and Sleeping Bear Dune. Views are best when the leaves are off the trees, but Little Glen Lake can usually be seen in the summer. The trail down from here is steep.
Numbered posts along the trail correspond to interpretive descriptions of the site's ecology that are included in brochures available at the trailhead.
